ciety of A .2012.12. Abstract Epinephrine is the recommended treatment in anaphylactic shock. Recently cases of anaphylactic shock refractory to epinephrine have been reported. The authors report the efficacy of a bolus of vasopressin in a refractory anaphylactic shock caused by rocuronium after failure the epinephrine. Thought this case report and review of literature, the authors discuss the mechanism of action and the effectiveness of this alternative treatment, vasopressin, in refractory anaphylactic shock to epinephrine. a 2013 Egyptian Society of Anesthesiologists. Methylene Blue Is Effective to Reverse Refractory Hemodynamic Instability due to Dimethoate Poisoning

Background:Organophosphates are commercially available agrochemicals for pest control, but may be abused for deliberate self-poisoning. We report a case of suicidal ingestion of dimethoate, a moderately toxic organophosphate insecticide, which can cause refractory hemodynamic instability, and the successful use of methylene blue (MB) for counteracting this complication. Case Presentation: An u...

Successful Treatment of Aluminium Phosphide Poisoning: A Case Report

Aluminium phosphide (AlP) is used to kill rodents in grain storage. It produces phosphine gas which is toxic for mitochondria. The exact mechanism of action is unclear, but phosphine is thought to produce toxicity by blocking cytochrome-c oxidase, which inhibits oxidative phosphorylation and result in cell death. This poisoning has a high mortality, and survival is unlikely if more than 1.5 g i...

Role of vasopressin in the treatment of anaphylactic shock in a child undergoing surgery for congenital heart disease: a case report

INTRODUCTION The incidence of anaphylactic reactions during anesthesia is between 1:5000 and 1:25000 and it is one of the few causes of mortality directly related to general anesthesia. The most important requirements in the treatment of this clinical condition are early diagnosis and maintenance of vital organ perfusion. Epinephrine administration is generally considered as the first line trea...

Treatment of a Child with Refractory Acute Myeloid Leukemia with Humanized Anti-CD33 Monoclonal Antibody: A Case Report and Review of Drug Development

Background: The induction chemotherapy regimen for acute myeloid leukemia has evolved as once induction is completed patients progress through the consolidation phase and achieve remission in 76% of cases. For patients with relapsed or refractory disease, alternative chemotherapy agents are available. Monoclonal antibody therapy with biological agents, such as the immunotoxin gemtuzumab ozog...

Vasopressin for the management of catecholamine-resistant anaphylactic shock.

Severe anaesthetic anaphylaxis is relatively uncommon. Oxygen, fluids and epinephrine are considered to be the mainstay for treatment of cardiovascular collapse and current guidelines for the management of anaphylaxis list only epinephrine as a vasopressor to use in the event of a cardiovascular collapse. Recently, evidence has emerged in the support of the use of vasopressin in cardiopulmonary...
